Centura Health has been awarded the 2017 Patient-Centered Innovation Award from the Colorado Academy of Family Physicians for its tele-concussion program.
Centura Health under the direction of Dr. Rocky Khosla, a family physician with specialized sports medicine and brain injury credentials, has developed a virtual concussion evaluation program and accompanying education program to serve rural and mountain communities. Dr. Khosla is part of the Southern Colorado Centura Health Physician Group and serves as medical director of St. Mary-Corwin Concussion Consultants in Pueblo.
The program allows Dr. Khosla to tele-consult with medical professionals and their patients in mountain and rural medical facilities using audio/visual technology. He can diagnose, evaluate and suggest further treatment for patients in a facility closer to the location where the incident occurred. The program was designed following a Centura Health commissioned needs assessment that identified concussion incidents as a high priority need in rural Colorado.
