In Memoriam – Dr. Bob Brittain

Physician, surgeon, educator and medical risk management innovator, Dr. Robert (Bob) Brittain passed away in Ojai, California on September 1.  He was 88 at the time of his passing.  Following is medical training and military service, Dr. Brittain moved to Colorado to complete his surgical residency and establish a successful surgery practice in Denver.  He assisted in the first liver transplant in Colorado.

Following his surgical career, Dr. Brittain continued his service to the medical community by tackling medical risk management.   He became involved at such an early point that he was considered the first physician risk manager in the nation.  In addition to establishing his own Risk Management Consulting business, Dr. Brittain was COPIC’s orignial Risk Manager beginning in 1981.   He assisted in the establishment of the Medical Insurance Company of Arizona (MICA).
