Ground Broken on New Medical Center

A groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday officially kicked off work on the new Banner Health Center, projected to open in February 2015.

However, demolition was obviously already underway, as speakers stood next to the wreckage of the existing former restaurant and bar on the site.

The new center, located at 102 Hays Ave. in Sterling, is one of two centers Banner Medical Group is building this year, noted Francisco Gonzalez, executive director for Banner Medical Group physician practices in rural communities. The center will serve as a model for other rural health centers, he said.

Also speaking at the ceremony were Dr. Jeff Bacon, who is the facility medical director; Sterling Regional MedCenter CEO Julie Klein; and Mark Earnhart, president of the SRM advisory board. All three spoke about their excitement over the expanding opportunities to provide quality medical care to area patients.
